A Brief History of Kratom
So by now, you have obviously heard of kratom. Lucky you! Most people haven't. Kratom has been around for centuries, however, it has only recently come into the consciousness of the mainstream, as it is now more widely distributed throughout the USA.
Kratom was first written about by Pieter Willem Korthals, who worked as the official botanist for the colonial Dutch East India company from 1831 to 1836. He first described Kratom in western literature in the early 19th century. Most are not aware that the genus was given the name Mitragyna by Korthals because the stigmas in the first species he examined resembled the shape of a bishop’s mitre. According to Korthals it is botanically related to Corynanthe and Uncaria and shares some similar biochemistry.
